The renowned studio, ufotable, has finally donned the mantle of sorcerers. For years, we’ve marveled at their pyrotechnic prowess, especially in the dazzling combat sequences of “Kimetsu no Yaiba.” But the Pillar Training Arc demanded something different: creativity and ambition. And boy, does Episode 3 of the new “Kimetsu no Yaiba” season deliver on that front!

Anime vs. Manga: A Striking Difference

Honestly, I could just say ‘EVERYTHING’ and call it a day. But let’s break it down, shall we?

  • Essentially, Episode 3 of the “Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime covers barely more than a single page from Chapter 131 of Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga. 😶
  • The overlap between the anime and the manga includes Tanjiro’s arrival at Uzui’s training zone, their initial exchange, and the presence of the kunoichi. Additionally, the scene of Tanjiro’s departure after training is also depicted. 🤣

  • Everything else in this Episode 3 of the Pillar Training Arc – from Tanjiro’s memory of eating soba with Tomioka to the battle with Uzui, or the scene of sharing tea with the kunoichis – are completely original additions to the “Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime. 🤯
  • The canonical storyline resumes with Muichiro’s introduction as part of the Pillar Training Arc. 😉

Episode 4 and Beyond: What to Expect

Given the precedent set by Episode 3, it’s highly likely that ufotable will continue to expand upon the manga’s content for the Mist Pillar, Muichiro. As with Uzui, Muichiro’s section of the training spans a mere couple of pages in the manga, so we can expect the studio to flesh out these moments.

[Muichiro is poised to receive a significant expansion of his manga section in the anime.]

Moreover, Episode 3 has already provided a clear indication of how the “Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime will approach the Pillar Training Arc. Despite having 8 episodes to cover a section of the story that initially seemed too brief, ufotable is committed to imbuing this arc with a depth and richness it previously lacked.

And there you have it, folks! It’s taken us until Episode 3 of the 8-episode Season 4 of “Kimetsu no Yaiba” for ufotable’s plans to truly make sense, but now that we’re here, all my personal doubts about the project have been swept away. Now, all that’s left is to eagerly await the next installment and see what other magical surprises they have in store for us!
